One of the most useful software tools I've come across recently is Freeagent Central. Essentially it's online accounting for freelancers and small businesses. You can invoice your clients and track your expenses and Freeagent works out your accounts and what you owe the tax man. The system is beautifully designed with a really intuitive interface. It's certainly makes keeping on top of your business finances significantly easier.
